Chocolate and Dogs – A Dangerous Mix! Chocolate contains theobromine, a stimulant similar to caffeine, which dogs cannot metabolize effectively. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, increased heart rate, tremors, and in severe cases, seizures or fatal poisoning.
