X-rays help diagnose a range of conditions; including fractures, heart and lung disease, abdominal issues and cancer. We have a top-of-the-range digital x-ray machine; providing instant, high-quality images and a separate dental x-ray unit for oral imaging. In most cases, we will have the results ready for you by the time you come to collect your pet.
The BVA Canine Health Schemes offer health screening for a number of known hereditary conditions; with the aim of improving overall pet health and welfare. Here at the clinic, we can perform x-rays for hip and elbow scoring; which look for indications of hip and elbow dysplasia.
The BVA website (below) highlights the breeds most at risk of developing these conditions. However, all breeds are eligible to apply for scoring. Scoring can only be done on animals over one year of age and must be performed under general anaesthesia.

Just like in human dentistry, x-rays can show us how the health of the tooth roots and surrounding bone; which allows us to pick up on problems earlier than we can by visual examination. We have a state of the art digital x-ray machine in our dental suite, reserved specifically for these cases.
